About The Area of Nea Dimmata
Nea Dimmata is a small traditional village with a long stretch of unspoilt coastline, situated away from the more mainstream tourist destinations between the village of Argaka and the tiny seaside resort of Pomos.
Pomos, located within a 10-minute drive offers a bank and mini market. Towards the outskirts of the village the pebbly beach by the small harbour and colourful fishing boats, you will find a view you can admire while dining at the fish taverna perched above.
Heading along the coastal road in the other direction towards Polis, you will pass through Ayia Marina village. Ayia Marina is a small, quiet village with a long stretch of unspoilt coastline. The village has a small grocery store, a coffee shop, a bakery and a small souvlaki house (summer opening only).
Argaka is located on the coastal plains of the Chrysochous area away from the more mainstream destinations only 15 minutes from New Dimmata. Nourished by its own reservoir this agricultural area is well known for its abundance of citrus orchards. The settlement of Argaka itself is divided into two parts, Pano Argaka (upper) located between the sea and the pine forest is the older of the two communities. Here, traditional style architecture can be found amongst the narrow, winding roads. Kato Argaka (lower) is the newer settlement standing next to the sea, although this area features more contemporary style residences and a handful of tavernas dotted along the coastal road, the atmosphere is still very laidback.
Polis located within a 25 minute drive, is the principal town in the northwest region, huddled around a pedestrianised square where visitors and locals gather in the mornings to enjoy a coffee and watch the world pass by and in the evenings to dine at one of the wide selection of restaurants, tavernas and cafes which radiate out from the centre. A little further along the coast from Polis is the seaside resort of Latchi known throughout Cyprus for its fresh fish.
Moving away from the coastal areas to venture a little further inland, you can explore some of the villages off the beaten track where you'll discover such delights as village cultural centres and museums, galleries, churches and wineries with free wine tasting!
Polis and the surrounding villages offer bowling, go-karting, fishing, cycling, water sports and scuba diving amongst the many activities on offer to the visitor. The town of Paphos with its World Heritage Sites, modern shopping facilities, Water Park and attractive harbour area is within an hour’s drive.
